Stonemasons

The lost Stone of Kirkmadrine was the third of three stones known to mark an ancient grave. The Rev. George Philip Robertson, minister of the Free Church in Sandhead, searched for 40 years until one day in November 1916 it was discovered by Robert Nelson as he worked on the manse gateway. He inadvertently broke up the stone before realising its significance. However it was repaired and now stands with the other two stones in Kirkmadrine Graveyard. Robert Nelson was a local stonemason and Great Grandfather of Colin Maclean the present Beadle of Sandhead Church who made the model of the stone seen here.
